Enviromental Activists Indicted

It's hard to know what to make of the New York Times anymore, following scandal after scandal (Jayson Blair, Judith Miller, holding the wiretap story until after the 2004 election etc) but at least they get credit for calling the environmental activists "saboteurs" instead of the more Republican "terrorist." Article here. 11 Members of ALF and ELF were indicted and arrested, 3 remain at large. None of the actions (not "attacks") involved violence on any people. This is not "terrorism" as AG Gonzales would have you believe. The cost of these actions is near $23 million, and the Feds are crowing over busting up this "ring." Now why don't those Feds go after Halliburton, or KBR, or any of the contractors in Iraq who have filled their pockets with the "missing" 9 billion dollars? $23 million is nothing. Further, there really is no ALF or ELF. Anyone who does anything can paint "this is the ELF" or whatever, and their action makes it seem like there is a global network. It is only like-minded individuals. Can anyone draw a parallel to the way Al Quaeda works?

Bottom line: if you've ever read "The Monkey Wrench Gang" you have an idea of what is really going on. This is not terrorism.
Hooray For Baltimore!

A Maryland judge struck down a 33 year old law banning "gay marriage" because it violates the Maryland constitution. Read it here. Of course the Republican governor is "seeking options" and is thinking about an amendment to define marriage. Thanks, you stupid Republicunts, why don't you get to work on something that isn't about dividing America?
Payback Visits The Supreme Court

Activists are seeking to bring the law home by seizing Justice David Souter's property under the "imminent domain" ruling handed down by the Supreme Court. Article here. At issue is the ruling upheld by the Supreme Court that makes it legal for a city to seize private homes if redeveloping that land can add revenue to the city's coffers. The imminent domain laws are supposed to be about a city being able to finish a freeway or something of mass public use, not taking land from one private party and giving it to another private party. This law is ridiculous and shame on the Supreme Court (yet again) for this stupid ruling. I hope Souter loses his house, but probably he wasn't thinking the "law" applied to him when he was sucking up to the big business nipple.

Al Gore's Rousing MLK Day Speech

Where was this Al Gore when he was running against the Chimp in 2000? This speech really lays it out. You might want to print this speech out and hang it on your 'fridge. Brought to you via Common Dreams.
