Football

The MLS season has just begun while all around Europe the leagues are wrapping up their seasons. It makes it difficult to switch gears, to start from scratch on a whole new run on the titles, cups and championships.

One team I support, Manchester United, is doing exceptionally well and is nearing the end of what could be a record-setting season. They currently sit top of the table in the Premiership, leading Chelsea by 3 points. Man Utd will face Chelsea in the final of the FA Cup, after both teams booked their spots in the final this weekend, United with a 4-1 thumping of Watford, and Chelsea with an unconvincing 2-1 squeaker against Blackburn Rovers. Both United and Chelsea are also in the last four of this year's Champions League competition. In the next leg, United face AC Milan and Chelsea face Liverpool.

Everyone who likes football is rooting against Chelsea and their buying of trophies. (said with some sarcasm). Man Utd fans will find themselves in the rare position of cheering on Liverpool when they face Chelsea, and Liverpool fans will also be hoping for United to thump Chelsea in the FA Cup final.

Domestically, the LA Galaxy have seemed to pick up right where they left off last season, which is, shitty. The Galaxy played their first game against FC Dallas away, and ended up scoreless. The home opener was last Thursday night against cup holders Houston Dynamo, who came away winners with a 2-1 scoreline.

I brought my friend Art, a Liverpool fan, and he made the comment that our midfield was completely lazy, nobody was running anywhere. He's right. Maybe the introduction of Mr David Beckham later this year will teach the MLS a little on how to churn up the middle of the park.

There were also rumors in Friday's papers that the LA Galaxy have approached Zinedine Zidane about a move to the MLS. If only it were true! Add this to the rumors about Robbie Fowler and many other making the switch, and the MLS could really step up a few gears. Fans are becoming loyal return customers, the games are getting better, and more and more Americans are doing well overseas. US soccer is coming alive.
